The EGR valve on my 80 L48 vette has a gasket in between the engine block and a steal spacer and then another gasket in between that spacer to the EGR valve. the new EGR valve comes with one gasket now do i new to put the spacer back on or do i put it straight on the manifold with out the spacer.
Put the spacer back on. Reuse one of the old gaskets. I can not say for sure what the spacer is there for but I am guessing it is for clearance between the valve cover and the side of the EGR diaphram housing. Other cars do not use a spacer so I figure it is Vette specific.
I just replaced my heads on my '80 with Dart Iron Eagles and the valve cover rail is raised slightly. The raised valve cover causes the V/C's to ride higher and interfear with the EGR valve. I wanted to keep the engine looking as close to stock as possible so I sandwiched a billet aluminum block off plate in there along with the factory spacer/gaskets. Now I needed studs to mount it as the bolts were now too short and longer ones would not fit under the valve.
