A family friend is considering selling his '78.
"1978 Anniversary Model
350 cid/185 hp
Rebuilt Automatic Transmission & Rear End
35208 Original Miles
New Oyster Leather Interior
All Options
New GM Paint"
What's a reasonable price for this thing? I think he's asking $18.5k
I think that the asking is a little high, but not a lot. This assumes that everything is in good shape and that there's no rust.
I also don't think that the seats are original. I thought that the anniversary edition had the split back, wrap around seats that became the standard after that.
The biggest clue that it's a repaint is where my original post said "New GM Paint"
Not a clue why anything was rebuilt. It belongs to a friend of my in-laws. I thought he had a pace car until I saw the pics today.
Paint looks like a base coat/clear coat...real shiny! Also, when these cars were painted...the charcoal paint on the bottom did not wrap onto the inside of the door. Silver was painted, top masked and then painted. So door charcoal or strips on door jambs! An obvious clue to repaint. Chrome on L48 engine suggests engine compartment tinkering and engine hardly looks like one that should accompany a 35k car?
I agree with others...$12k-$15k but begin with $18k and see what response there is.
Pretty car. I like it but I doubt it will actualy sell for close to the asking price. You might get lucky but you will have to BE LUCKY to get much over $14,000 IMHO. I saw a very nice NCRS correctly restored car on Ebay a while back that was top shelf and never met reserve. Bids did not come close to the $18.5K being asked here.
Sorry but the market is pretty soft for this one. JMO
