My error ; I meant 4.200 bore on the block; not head cc's.

Yea I think youre right about that. you can get a 434 out of a 4.125 bore....I think you can get a 472 from a 4.250 bore though. That would be the VERY maximum edge of an SBC.

I think one thing has gotten lost in this discussion, the Rat's main advantage is in it's cylinder heads, not it's displacement. Try to find how many aftermarket small block chevy heads will even flow the numbers of my stock 049 BBC heads.

Just for the sake of comparison, a benchmark if you will, throw out a number. What are your stock heads running?

Great motor until you drop a cylinder and have to bore but can't because to had to bore it to the max to get the 472ci.

only 8k hahaha no wonder its dropping a rod.

The thing with that MASSIVE overbore is that you HAVE to run theeee best parts in the engine or it will fly apart within 20k miles. You can have a solid 472 making around 650hp thatll last a good long time, but the turnkey cost is about....meh....14 grand.

Worth it? meh....I can build a lot more than 650hp for 14 grand, but then how many street cars have a 472?

Not a very fair apples to apples comparison on those head flows. The 049's that CHP tested had factory stock 2.06/1.72 valves - that Edelbrock small block head had bigger valves out of the box. If you're gonna use that big of a small block head - average is probably a lot closer to 165 or so - do the same with a big block head. How about my 360cc runner Pro Toplines? No CNC work, flowed 407 out of the box, about the same price as your Edelbrocks and that's still not as big as you can get on big blocks, plus you still have Big Chief and Big Duke stuff to consider. Stroke that smallblock all you want, when you open the hood, it's still a small block and will NEVER have the WOW factor of a big block. Even if you can't get it to the ground, the big block's torque and breathing ability is tough to beat. Matter of fact, IMHO, the only way to beat a big block is with a bigger block. I'm considering a 532 myself (4.0 stroke, 4.6 bore). My .02

My point wasn't that there isn't aftermarket small block heads that can outflow my heads, I know there is and you showed one of them. My point was that it takes a healthy aftermarket small block head to even outflow a stock oval port big block head.

I suppose since you have Protopline heads that you have heard of the Protopline PRO 14deg SBC PRO STOCK DRAG RACE HEAD that flows 415.9cfm out of the box ?

There is also something called port velocity which allows a smaller head to make more power if matched with correct components.

BTW I am not serious about this stuff

110 pounds if Im not mistaken. A BB 454 is 685 pounds (iron), a SB 350 (Iron again) w/mods would be UNDER 600....probably 575 or so.
