I am lookung for some input on a engine build up. I am starting with a 79 L-82 engine block. Installing a Eagle Crank(10350375057i) internal balanced and uses stock 5.7 rods. Pistons to bring compressionup to about 10:1. Stock L-82 cam.1.5 rollr rockers. Intake is a Tuned Port system. The car has ramhorn manifolds and true dual exhaust system.
Does this sound like a good starting point for a stump puller engine?
I would ditch the cam and get one that is more designed for fuel injection. It will have more torque with the correct cam. Cam technology has come a long way sine the L82 cam was made. I agree on the headers. It will breathe much better with them.
I know a guy running a 383 with Edelbrock RPM heads and the L-82 cam. His engine builder has done a lot of them that way so he went with it. He says it is a torque monster on the road. DD2K likes it as a stump puller.
Here is a link to a small page on one of his cars (69 Camaro convert):
The TPI was designed for a 305 & limits rpm a Corvette should have. Yes will work well at lower rpm. The wide LSA 114 of the L-82 cam should work fine w/ the computer. Add headers.
He used a set up aftermarket runners but it will work pretty well with the stock runners and give you 400-500 more rpm's on the top end. Should be a stump puller to 5000 rpm's.
