thinking of putting VBP 550s/slalom springs, anyone use these, they say it will drop the front by 1" which is what I'm looking for, not sure if my old springs are original or which way is up to cut from do the vbp springs come powdercoated.. at 59.99 it seems a pretty good deal as my old springs may be almost 30 years old bushog
I put the 550 lb VBP springs on my '79 this spring. I couldn't be happier! Well actually I could, but that has nothing to do with the springs... LOL
Note that they are very stiff springs- I rebuilt my front end with autocross in mind. If it was just a cruiser I would probably have gone with the softer springs. Anything will be better than your old ones! :-)
The ride is pretty darn firm, not quite harsh- but can be a bit jarring on rough roads. Until I get the rear end done (this months project, hopefully) my handling is suffering. Nice tight front end (new shocks, springs and bushings) with a really loose rear end- 26 year old rubber bushings, soggy old spring... new shocks though... LOL
These are the same spring rate as the gymkhana suspension and are fairly firm. Whether they're too firm is each person's individual preference. I found them them a bit soft and went to the old Daytona springs which are 860#/in. Noticeable improvement in stability but even I would say they're a bit stiff.
I just put the 460s on my car and they give a firm but not harsh ride. They seem to be a good street combo. For autocrossing the 550s may be better but I believe the 460s will do fine between the cones too.
