I was wondering if there was any way to find out from my vin# what my 69 came with from the factory i.e. copy of the build sheet, factory records ect. I bought my car from the widow of the original owner and she wasn't sure if he had modified the car. I looked in the usual places for the build sheet in the car and haven't had any luck.
Attached to the gas tank? The car sat in their garage for the last 25 ys and it rusted out sooo.....I pulled it (oh what fun that was) and pitched it! Auntie 'Em tell me it ain't so!
Usually glued to the top of the gas tank to the left of the filler cap. If the car sat for 25 years, I would think there's still a good chance it's on there. It's a big sheet...say at least 8"x6"....it must have been missing. because I can't imagine you would have pitched the tank without noticing it.

Despite the comments, no one answered your original question. Engine information wasn't coded into Corvette VIN's until 1972. The only thing you can tell from your VIN is the build sequence: #XXXXX1 out of a total production of XXXXX2.
There have been reports of folks finding folded up sheets in the back of the instrument cluster, under the rear carpet, and stuck in the seat bottoms in the springs.

.....The VIN will also tell you whether it's a coupe or convertible.......that may seem obvious, but a coupe can be converted to a convertible........
....the tank sticker will tell you which options the car came with out of the factory........
.....even without the tank sticker, with a bit of sleuthing you'll be able to determine most of the original configuration.........part casting numbers, engine suffix codes, tach red line position and even the smog sticker will help with leads that would normally be on the tank sticker......
This website will get you started on a rather long, but fun journey......
There have been reports of folks finding folded up sheets in the back of the instrument cluster, under the rear carpet, and stuck in the seat bottoms in the springs.
They've also been found folded and tucked into strut brackets, stuffed into coil springs and other suspension hideaway spots. If the emission label is original, or appears such, it will also offer insights into the engine/tranny combination. In 69, it might also indicated A/C, K66 or other "heavy-duty" options.
I recently bought a '77 from Florida which my Son and I are
toying with. The original owner told me that when the car
was about 10 years old, he switched the seats from side to
side so that they would wear evenly..... There was a perfect
build sheet copy under the driver's seat....
What's my point ?? The guys who assembled these cars were
apt to place the copies anywhere and everywhere in the car.
I have heard of many people finding them under the dash etc.....
wow really cool info here. My car just went into the interior shop on Friday 10/1 and will be there at least a month. It's a custom interior - anyway i will call him right now and tell him to keep his eyes open for anything like that WOW - maybe who knows we might get lucky!
