Default Frontgrille on a -73

I read in an older thread that the leading edges of the grill should be chromed on a 73? True?

True. The 73 and 74 grills are identical except that the 73 has a chrome leading edge while the 74 is all black.

Should look like this:

Default 1973 Grilles.

Here are mine. I bought all three pieces NOS about two years ago. I found two on Ebay and one in Hemmings. It's a 1973 by the way.

If you keep an eye on Ebay you will find one sooner or later. I think you can expect to spend $200.00-$400.00 for the center grille. I was lucky..I found mine in Hemmings...he hated Ebay...never posted it. I got a deal on it...$200.00. I found the passenger side the hardest to find....! Maybe they were wrecked more often. Don't waste your time and money calling around for them...nobody has them. Just keep checking Ebay. It was driving me crazy not having the correct grilles !!!! I'm more of a NCRS guy than many here...I like them stock and correct. Ebay gets a lot of bad press here in the Corvette Forum but it is a good way to find NOS parts.

My car #5100 is alive and well, and yes it has the chrome edge metal center grill. NY is a two plate state, but they won't bother hassling you about the grill (lack of front plate) unless you ask for it! Cars original dealer was in Tulsa, OK. One plate state?

Carl: Good question as to how many 73's are registered, licensed & still on the road and running--or about to be running. I have often wondered why a company does not reproduce the front center grill--They do make both the left and right grill pieces. Front grill fits both the 73 and 74. A plastic repro. would be better than nothing.

from what i have heard they also do not make a either coolant recovery tank or washer bottle for the 73- nice if we could make them and distribute them would'nt it? between the tanks and the center grill we would be set!

Hi Carl a,, Not trying to be picky here, and I don't want to start a p.. contest, lololl. But I think we have uncoverd something with these numbers, let me explain..... I got my numbers out of the corvette restoration guide, and they give me 4943-1YZ67 verts produced. it is very posible that the info in my book is off track, and I will bow to you if it is . What is the source of your info?? Just want the correct numbers, although it wont change my life style,,lololl.

If you are not going for NCRS, a silver paint marker will clean up the edges of the grilles. Joe

Number 00522 vert is alive and doing well here, interesting R73 454, my car also came from the mid West/same area. I found a few of those grills at Carlisle, guy wanted $300-$350 for the chrome edges, boxed was more...ouch!
