hmm, reverse lights on all the time, and starter won't crank. I'm cursed with an automatic, so I need to ask: can you normally start a std vette with it in gear?(foot on clutch of course) If you see where I'm going with this, I'd say it had something to do with reverse contact or nuetral safety switch. Normally the nuetral safety switch is an automatic item. Reverse contact is integrated into the neutral safety switch on an A/T, but is usually a separate switch on a manual. Not sure how it is wired in and if it would have any effect on energizing the starter, but might be something to check out.
Manuals have a Clutch safty switch but when that goes bad you a dead crank...no click no grind nothing. Some current is getting to te starter...just not enough...so its either a battery, the cable or that starter/soloniod.
How do I check the battery cables etc? I'm a noob and hey I have to learn sometime, maybe some one could show me how with pics It would really be helpful guys!
Hey Corvis....Did the clutch pop thing work for you?
have you had the battery load tested? Do that first.
Testing the battery cables Is not an exact science...easiest way would be to disconnect your red battery cable from the battery and te starter. Run a jumper cable from the battery to the starter and see what you get? If you have a good connection and get the same problem then it is most likely the starter. Obviously clean off any corrossion on the battery cable connection points.
