Are there any good tricks to stop a left side door mirror from tilting front & back? Thanks.
Forgot to mention that it is a 1970. It's the whole mirror assembly that rocks, not just the glass. The mirror plating looks nice, so I assume it is a repro that was put on by the previous owner. I didn't know if anyone else had this problem. I took the assembly off the door, but couldn't tell much. It's as though the hole through the bracket for the set screw is in the wrong location and angle.
I tied super glue... it worked for awhile. There was a tech article on how to fix the mirror but you have to take it apart. I broke the glass trying so I bought a new (repro) mirror. Good news is that it is tight and stays put. The bad news is that after only one year the base is starting to get pits and corrosion and the stainless part is actually showing little rust spots. This is worse than the old 34 year mirror!
i remember the post said to soak the mirror in something to loosen the glue,,then theres a spring type plate in there that rests on the ball, which has to be peaned to tighten it up
Had the same problem with my 73 mirror. I put a small washer in between the mirror and the mount on the door and then put the screw in and tightened it up. It seemed to me that the area where the screw goes thru had been spread too wide and I couldn't close it back up. It worked but I still didn't like fixing it that way so I ended up getting a new screw and installing that and it's been holding since. It could be that the screw isn't any good (chamfered area on the screw is worn?).
