Default carfax please

I'm serioussly interested in purchasing a 69 roadster. The vin is 1946795728788. I was wondering if anyone could run a carfax for me?
Also does the vin tell you anything else about the car? engine? trans etc.
thanks, Adam

19467 tells you that it is a corvette convertable...The next two should be 9S7 (not 5) next.... 28788 is the sequential serial number that tells you the car was built in in Sept 1969 .... 28107 was the LAST car in August. Those five numbers should be stamped on the engine id pad on the front of the passenger side just at the edge of the head. If not then you do not have the original engine. No way to tell which engine you should have from the vin.

The number on the engine pad shoul have two sets of numbers. One os the engine build date and the other is a derivetive of the vin ending with the last five numbers. The J in the vin tells you that you have (or should have) the base 190hp 350. When machine work is done to blocks, sometimes they mill the deck eradicating the numbers.

thanks larry, reason i ask is both previous owners told me matching #'s car.. then a mechanic that changed a oil pan gasket and timing chain gasket said it was a later model engine-(he said the 73 gasket was different than what fit on car now) i told him he was wrong met 1st owner -met 2nd owner (he pulled orig. motor out and stroked it) so i always wanted to find the #'s to prove mr know it all wrong

Lots of good mechanics know nothing about corvettes but won't admit it. To them it's just another small block chevy. It may well be but numbers are important to some corvette buyers and owners. Auto parts stores are even worse.
