Default Question for 73 owners ?

I'v had my 73 coupe for a year now,, and noticed that I don't have that little round thingy just above the lettering on the rear. All the pics I'v looked at don't give me enough detail, and the books don't talk much about it. It looks like a key hole ?? for what?? The rear was probably changed due to some colision at some time, and the hole was never replaced.

That would be for the factory alarm system. Your car probably did not come with it if the key hole is not there. You can look up into the drivers side rear wheel area just above the muffler and see if the horn is hanging there to know for sure if you had the system or not.

Same with my car. No power steering or power brakes. I have since added power steering to it though.

I was under the impression that all vettes had a factory alarm from 1968 on up. Is this true or not?

I'm looking in the restoration guide, and it does not even list as an option in 73??? was it a dealer installation option ??

you will not find the alarm on the option list, because it is standard on all
73's. you should have 2 door pin switches in each door jamb the one for
the alarm is in the lower corner in the rear. Their is also a hood pin on the firewall on the pass. side above the heater hose fittings. the relay is in the storage tub on the pass. side under the tray, if it is not their the wire connecter should still be their.

Also, if your rear end was replaced most of the time the alarm was discarded, only the letters "corvette" were installed and the alarm key switch was not....

I like this one the best!!!!!
I think the rear clip replacement therory is the correct one in my case,, last winter while working in the trunk ( I'm not very big lololl) I noticed a grease pencil mark under the rear deck... in red *74*,, so it kinda suggests replacement after an accident.

I missed something here. What does the *74* mean?

It can not be a 74 rear clip. Completely different with the rubber rear bumper.

Great Theory, I will buy it.

BTW, my '69 is a base model (no ps or pb) and it has the alarm and the switch still in place.

Factory alarm, option on 68-71, standard starting in 72. In 74, switch moved from rear to front driver qtr panel next to Stingray.

Man, what was I thinking ,,lolol,, now I'm all confused, your right, it can't be a 74 clip,, and even if it was just the deck it does'nt explane why I don't have the key hole???? twomoro I'll be crawling all over it looking for some clues that were mentioned in the above posts.

Yep!!,, just went over and under the vette and like a lot of you mentioned above all the switches etc etc are still there, and there is a glob of putty on the inside wear the key hole should be. to sum up, I don't think this car was in any accident, as far as I can tell. Just repainted, and the theft system abandoned.
If anybody can give me some theorys on the *74* under the deck lid like I explained amonge (brain fart on the spelling lololl) the first posts, it would be interessting to hear!!!!

I'll be damned. I was wondering what it was for. Thought maybe it was a lock for the spare tire. My girlfriend also asked if it was for the trunk :o

I'll have to take a look at the electrical drawings in my service manual.
