On my '82, when you use the power lock to lock the doors it sets the alarm. If anyone opens the doors without unlocking the door it sets off the alarm honking the horn at 1 sec intervals.
Everything was fine until one rainy day; I locked the doors, got out and shut the door. The alarm went off after about 2 seconds, five steps from the car. I had to turn the key in the door lock to quiet it.
This sucks when I step out of the car and walk away only to be startled by a honking car. I then have to return, head low, to turn off the alarm. Any ideas what the problem is???

Yes, there is a wire under the drivers side fender that is hooked up to what looks like a car horn. You need to see it from the underside of the car. Pull the wire off and your problem will be solved.
That is what I did to mine.
Seriously, there is a plug on the door lock retainer that might be suspect. I recently had my door panel off for another nightmare reason and saw the retainer/sensor was loose. Something to check if you have a spare Saturday.

Thanks, stingr69. I'll check the wires and the door switch. Is the alarm switch the same switch that turns on the interior lights? They work fine. I did not know it had a separate alarm horn. It sounds just like the std horn.
The interior lamps work on the door jamb switch. The alarm has a switch attached to the door key. The alarm has a dedicated horn that is simmilar to the regular car horn. Peek up there from the underside behind the front drivers tire, you will see it. The alarm horn has a red or orange colored wire I believe.
So, how does the car know the door has been opened without being unlocked? Is there a motion switch in the door? Do you think the issue is with the door lock switch?
On an 82 the alarm uses the car horn....there is not a seperate horn for the alarm. The same door jam switch operates the courtesy lights and anti-theft alarm.

Door closes, lights go off, horn honks after 2 sec WTF?
The doors and the T-tops are protected with switches. The switches are located at both door hinge pillars (the door light switch) and at both T-Tops lock mechanisms.
The door lock cylinders are also equipped with a tamper switch which will trigger the alarm if they are unlocked by any means other than the key. It loks like a electro-mechanical set-up.
The alarm activates the regular horns and the starter disrupt circuit.
If you want to continue to use the alarm, I would start to disable certain switches by wiring fixes and see if this solves your problem. There is a theft deterent module in your rear passenger side compartment.
Go to Ebay and buy a used red cover 1982 GM Corvette shop manual. There is a great troubleshooting guide with schematics/pictures/locations of your alarm system. It will be worth every penny you spend.
Just to close the loop on this issue in case this happens to someone else; I thought it was coincidence that my alarm went off when it was raining cats and dogs, but moisture must have been the problem. After 4-5 days of dry hot Texas weather, the electronics must have dried out and I have had no more alarm problems. I may take off the door panel and try to shield the electronics from the rain, wrap in plastic or something, and make sure my window seal is tight.
