The zz4 comes with a long water pump. You will need to change it to a short water pump because the vettes use short water pumps. I personally bought a water pump from Stewart components and am very please with it. It is a stage 2 aluminum short style water pump for a corvette. Hope this helps you.

You'll need to use the Short waterpump unless you've got an electric fan.... If you've got the plastic Timing cover you'll need to grind one timing cover bolt down to get the waterpump to seal to the block.

I have a ZZ4 that I plan to put in my 1968 Convertible. At the present time, the engine, stock bellhousing, and stock Muncie transmission are mounted on a spare frame that I have.

I also bought the Serpentine belt kit out of the GM performance catalog. I bought the complete kit with the air conditioner delete option. It includes a late model 100+ amp alternator (good for electric fans), a power steering pump, and a reverse rotation water pump. With the reverse rotation water pump, you'll have to use electric fans since the stock mechanical fan will be spinning the wrong direction! The Serpentine kit includes a cast aluminum bracket for the air conditioner compressor - with the A/C delete option you also get an idler wheel. Also, there's another cast aluminum bracket for what I think is a smog air pump. In my case I got another idler wheel. The Serpentine belt kit is now mounted on the engine.

Good news: It does look nice and installed it'll give a new technology look to the 68 engine compartment. Also, for all the new stuff you get (the alternator is remanufactured) it's probably a good deal. Supposedly the Serpentine kit will reduce belt losses by 5 hp. The crank pully is larger than stock, but doesn't hit the frame crossmemeber.

Bad news: The idler wheel (which is a substitute for a smog pump pully) hits the passenger's side upper control arm mounting shaft. Two possible work arounds. (1) Delete the idler wheel and get a slightly shorter belt. This might work if the belt doesn't develop a vibration. (2) Mount the idler wheel upside down and machine a little off of it's bracket to do this (sorry you'd have to see a picture to understand this).

The power steering pump has a metric high pressure hose thread. You need to make an adapter, or use an older pump sheet metal housing that has the english thread.

If you have a 68 wiring harness with the external alternator regulator, you're going to have to get an adapter harmess.

The reverse rotation water pump which means you can't use a mechanical fan has been mentioned.

One of the Serpentine brackets has several mounting holes, one of which will not bolt up to the ZZ4. The instruction sheet says don't worry about this. The Serpentine kit has some brace rods that you won't be able to use.

The bolts are a collage of metric and english. You have to figure out which goes where.

The Serpentine kit was, I believe, original factory equipment on the 1991 and 1992 Camaros and Firebirds.
