We were in a discussion about C3's with today's technology (ie: engine, transmission, suspension, etc..). Have any of you seen someone do this? If so, please post links and/or pics.
I've seen this done to other older muscle cars, but not on the C3's.
There are quite a few companies now producing their own frame that mounts up with new suspension and drivetrain components. Look in any of the Vette magazines and there will be advertising for them. One near me is www.philadelphiamotorsports.com There are others and there have been a few people tha thave done this themselves also. It is not cheap but then what with a Vette is

My 77 has an LT1 and ZF6 out of a C4, the previous owner installed and converted it, also he put a new frame and rebuilt the suspension with some updated pieces and poly bushings.
Still needs some work but she runs and rides real nice for an almost 30 year old car.

OH, like anything else, it depends on what you do and when and how much money....I got my shark in '96 or so, and let it sit for a month, deciding just how to approach it...thing was an old show car from the 70s' yet, and so it sat for about 25 years or so....had only ~120k miles on it, but needed all the mechanicals....
"92 vette wheels/tires, now upgraded to 50 series, new urethane suspension, then rack/pinion steering years later, DPFI on original engine, then upgraded the entire engine by about 150 or so HP....added overdrive for Florida driving style...
many other related changes, but some of that is just ME, and not anything overly related to hotrodding the car PER SE....
Does that mean that you could lift a 69 off it's existing frame and set it on the new one and just bolt it down?
Supposedly. I have not seen one in person for a C3 yet, but have seen a few C2s.
I have seen a 62 body on a C5 chassis and it was sweet!
You can buy nice used C4 suspension front and rear for about $3000, the tube frame is about $6000. Another $1000 or so to re-do the brakes and bushings and such and you should be in the ballpark.
WoW !!! Those are some nice converted C3's !!! Great Job Guys !!! And thanks for the replies. I had no idea there were so many upgraded C3's with the LS1's.
Im an old timer...I like the IDEA that you can have a quasi-modern C3 without actually having to put in a 21st century drivetrain. When does a C3 STOP being a C3? Are we going stricly on body styling? Is there something more to it? I look at my cars philosophically, will it still be a C3 if I put in an engine, drivetrain, brake system from 2005? To me, no it wont be. You put in a normal small or big block, use the same but upgraded parts that bolt right on to a C3, then yes....but thats just my humble opinion.
