Default Help With A Big Block Please

I have a 1973 with the original 454...well it was original. I finally got tired of it breaking down and yanked the motor last month. I have rebuilt the motor and installing a 700r4 trans. My problem now is I need to have tall valve covers and well the brake booster is in the way. I have tried to find a set that will work but without the motor in I cant measure the distance but I do not think I have 3.8 inches of clearence. I also was thinking of putting a different brake booster in it from a monza or something. What effect will this have on the car does anyone know? Now I know why my dad's 67 427 had no power brakes steering or anything else for that matter LOL. Also I was wondering is it true that an edelbrock torcker 2 will fit under the hood? Thanks for any info.

There are some aftermarket boosters for conversions and hot rods that are considerablely smaller than the stock unitl.

Get a www.hydroboost.com system. It has more powertha nthe original and is much smaller. I have one on my SB and it has been great. It will fit tall valve covers on a BB

A Torker II will fit under a big block hood but, IMO is a lousy manifold. It's too low profile to provide the high RPM airflow that single plane manifolds are known for (the tight radius turns in the runners are restrictive). And it sacrafices low end torque just like single plane manifolds are known for. The worst of both worlds. I saw a dyno comparison in one of the car mags a couple of years back and this manifold sucked (literally and figuratively)!

You're better off with the factory dual plane. At least then you keep the low end torque. Go with a Performer or Performer RPM and get a higher hood. I'm not sure if the '73-'75 cowl style hood will clear a BB with one of these manifolds or not. The '68-'72 BB hood definitely will not.

The tall valve covers will fit!!!
I've had LS4, LS5, LS6 and LS7 with the booster in place!

Clearance is pretty tight and you will have to fool around with the cover a bit to get it on and off on the driver side.
Passenger side too if you have A/C.

Hydroboost will eliminate your problem on the driver side.

You will however have a problem with the bigger Dart Pro 1 heads and their tall valve covers.....definitely have to go Hydroboost on this one.
