As always, when I go out for a weekend ride, it is just like strolling a baby - somebody always has comment, question, etc. Yesterday was the best one yet. I am getting ready to leave Taco Bell and a blue SUV pulls up in the parking spot next to me. The driver gets out, walks around, and asks, "Is that one the older ones made of fiberglass?". I have gotten to where I expect the usual question/comment about the year, or a personal experience with a Vette, or other. But, that one took me by total surprise. Oh well, at least he was right on count - unfortunately as I must admit as a guy in mid-life, 1976 was a long time ago. Just wondering, anyone else out there got that question before or even a better one?
I was on my way to a Corvette judging show in Virginia with my Silver 1975 coupe and I stopped for gas at a gas station and a very old man asked me "That's a '58, is'nt it?"
I get the wrong year questions a lot, both older and newer (..."hey, is that an '85..., etc.). I understand not eveyone is going to know the years of our cars. But, when someone is looking right at my license plate and the bracket says "1970 Stingray" and they stil are way off on the year, you have to wonder.
1 week after i bought the car i lost my rear spring to a nasty set of railroad tracks - the tow truck driver shows up and asks: "car break?" now my wife and i are both huge fans of the "blue collar comedy tour" and all the work those guys (foxworthy, engvall, etc) do - so i naturally responded in true form with: "nope, just got sick of driving it, thought id give you a call."
