Default Exhaust

I wanted to get some out put on stock exhaust vs. side pipes.

I’ve read that the interior of the car heats up.

1- Is the main cause the exhaust?
2- Will side pipes help the heat issue?
3- Do you still need rocker panels if you go to side pipes?

Thanks

get Sidepipes....enough said.
Interior doesn't heat up, and if you go with stock covers, you can get rid of your existing rocker panels...unless you go with a Hooker.

The main cause of cabin heat is not always the undercar exhaust. It can also be attributed to hot coolant constantly flowing through the heater core. If your heater box seals are original, chances are, they allow hot air into the cabin at all times.

If you use the '69 style stock covers you'll need no rockers, the covers take the place of the stock rockers. Not much ground clearance here.

If you use the Hooker side mounts, then you'll use the stock rocker covers but the front tips will need trimmed.

If you go with Hookers you may need to trim the rocker panel as outlined below.

If you go with the 69 stock style pipes, they are louder but not that bad. All I know is my 69 with undercar exhaust, lots of cabin heat, my 72 with 69 side exhaust, no heat.

Hooker side mounts also create a leg burn posability. Heat shields are avilable for this though.

A little FYI for the side pipe lovers, Hooker just did a redesign on the BB side tube headers to help eliminate the need to trim anything. We just did a fit up on my 68 BB vette here at holley and they worked great!

Another good piece of info, around the middle of next month Hooker will also release a "Maximum Flow" muffler for the side pipes. It is a 2 1/2 straight through design. It made 130hp more than the regular glass pack design insert on a 600hp engine. They are louder, but sound mean!
