Long time admirer is now a first time owner. I just got my first vet; a 1980 Daytona Yellow in great condition other than a few minor glitches. I'm currently trying to figure out why the high beams will not come on. The low beams work fine. I've replaced all of the bulbs so I know they are good. When I switch from low to high the lows (outside pair) go off and the highs (inside pair) stay off. Are the lows supposed to turn off when the highs come on? Any ideas on where to start? My first thought is the switch at the base of the steering column. Thanks for any suggestions.
The outside ones have two filaments, so they work as dim and then switch to brights, since none come on, start at the dimmer switch and see if you have power there. If you don't have a good service manual with a wiring diagram, now would be a good time to get one.

ok just for grins... make sure all the bulbs are in fact good you can do this with a battery charger or any 12 volt source. when you have the lights out make sure corrioson is not a factor in the connectors that plug into the lights, spray with wd-40. lows beams should stay on when you turn on the high beams. I would look at the schematic and try and find where the headlight relays are. that switch at the base of the steering column if its like my 77 is near impossible to get out...and in fact i installed a foot switch instead. i would trouble shoot every thing else first other then that switch just because of the difficulty in getting to it...
