Yoy could simply have defective bulbs. Go to the Lectric Limited site and order a schematic for about $18 + shipping. Along with the AIM and factory service manuals, it is a great deal and mandatory for electrical work. Your tach is mecahnical, cable driven.

Probably you have a power wire shorting to ground. Trace the wires back from your fuse panel to the bulb sockets. Look for wires rubbing against sharp metal, wires that have cut through the insulation, bad connections at the bulb sockets/fuse panel/turn signal switch/blinker module. There is a small chance the turn signal switch or blinker module is bad but its more likely its a shorted wire somewhere. Ya schematics = good idea.

steve are you talking about the trn sig bulbs? on my 71 the fuse is a trn sig/back up , I can disconnect the back half of the wiring system , junction block under dash by fuse box, therefore elimnating the back half as part of the problem , I have no front trn signals(haven't purchased the additional wiring pigtails) , so I'm down to the trn switch itself , "for image" I don't know if any of that info will help you or not.

todbo, that does help, one question for you, when you put the new harness in your car, did it run by the wiper motor, the guy i bought it from just replaced the motor and he said they worked before that?

I had the same problem last month, except I was also blowing a fuse when I stepped on the brake pedal. I'm not an electric wiz, but I did the following:

1) Changed out the flasher unit located under the map pocket.

2) Replaced all of the rear bulbs, using contact cleaner on the bulb receptacles, before installing the new bulbs.

3) dropped the steering column. If this had been done before, the wiring harness may have been pinched when it was put back together. Ruffle the harness wires and / or check for wire damage. I testing the system before bolting the steering column back in place.

Which one worked? Who knows, maybe just my lucky day.

A mechanic friend of mine mentioned one other possibility. A part inside the column, related to the turn signal my be broken inside. This can also cause these symptoms. Again, luckily I didn't have to go there.

Good luck.
