I've been searching for CA smog legal headers for my L-48. I've contacted several companies and have been told they don't exist.

Anyone know of a company that manufactures such an animal? Why are they so hard to find? Thanks

There all over the place. First stop JAEGS or SUMMIT. My old 77 L-82, FAUXRS 78 L-82, and SANDIEGOPAUL's 76L-48 all have emission legal headers.

I think the following are 50-state legal: Hedman 68301 (painted), 66301 (coated), and 61308 (Elite). They also have a non-smog header that is not legal in CA.

i've been concerned with this matter too. the question, however, is what is the ground clearance with these headers? my car has been lowered ~2" so i can't afford for the collector to be the lowest point on the car.

The Hedman 50 state legal ones are the way I intend to go. I've heard very good things about the performance improvement. Not sure about the ground clearance issue though.

My Hedmans show signs of having hit a bump or two in their year and a few months of life.

Actually, more like a bump or sixty...

Thorley also sells legal headers. I'm happy with Hedman but I'd be curious to try the Thorleys out too.

I just got off the phone with the tech people at Hedman Hedders. They tell me the only model # that 's going to get by the new CARB requirements are the #68301 (painted)... and the #66301 (coated).

Apparently the pipes are stamped... and the Smog ****'s have been told to confirm those specific numbers or discontinue the test.

They come with air tubes that must be hooked up and functioning.... and all other stock emissions equipment must be present and functional.

The techs also warned me that the pipes would not clear the steering dampener in front of the crossmember.

Has that been a problem for any of you? How did you install them?

Also... does anyone know what these cost? Techs wouldn't give me any retail info.

Thanks.
