How difficult is it to install new cables? Seems mindless, but not certain. Can someone give me a quick play by play?? Also, if I get the cables from a local shop it Napa etc., will they be the right length?
Do yourself a favor and purchase the correct cables from the start. Most of the Corvette suppliers carry them. The length is not as big of issue as the grommets that are molded to the cable. The neg. side is pretty straight forward, but the pos side will be kind of a chore. I replaced mine when the body was off and nothing was in the way, so I have no idea how long it will take you. I also replaced all of the little hold down thingys with some that have thick rubber in them because my originals were pretty wasted, so you might want to check yours before you get started.
I've looked at this job for my '77, and I already have the proper positive cable. I'm going to replace it when I lift the body to change the body mounts, otherwise I can't get over the transmission to get to the cable clamps.

Thanks in advance.
Auto or manual trans? Not sure if it is possible with auto trans still in the car, but I did the cables on my manual trans '69 and the negative was easy. Positive took a few hours working on my back under the car. My car is really clean underneath and none of the nuts on the cable clamps were rusted so everything came off relatively easy. The most difficult area is in the tunnel area at the rear of the trans although none of it is what I would call easy. If your car still has the fiberglass insulation around the trans it will have to be moved out of the way as well but you can move it enough to get the new cable in without having to destroy it. Make sure you wear a long sleeved shirt unless you enjoy the itching you get after working with fiberglass.
Ok, thanks for the info. My car is manual so I am hoping that this won't be that difficult, however with all other projects they all seem to somehow get difficult. Thanks.
