Hey all, I'm new to corvettes in general and to this forum in particular. I'm basically wondering where I can get a dual plane big block intake manifold that will fit under the stock hood of a '76 without having to modify it? I've looked around and I've seen that there were production dual plane aluminum manifolds for stock hoods, why can't I find any aftermarket ones? Anyway from what I've seen this is a great place to find the info I need, thanks in advance
The shortest aluminum duel plane I can think of is the '68 or '69 spread bore for the 390HP 427's. The '70 to '74 big blocks had cast iron copies of this manifold. Even then it is tough getting a good air filter under the big block hood let alone that of a '76. As for myself, if I had a '76 with a big block I'de kinda want people to know it. 'Corse if I had a 'Vette that moved under its own power, I let people know 'bout it.
Just leave the carburetor off. There will be plenty of clearance. seriously.. this question comes up a lot. Since 73-74 had the same hood there shuold be a few people out here that have the answer. I do know that the selection of aftermarket manifolds for Corvette application is very limited. My stock manifold is actually "sunken compared to even a stock Chevy unit.
If you are still looking for a manifold that will fit under the hood and still flow well, I took out my low rise Chevy Aluminum from my LS6.. Replaced it and the hood with a higher dula plane.. Anyway, the manifold took a bit of damage on removal by a buddy.. Would need a bit of heliarc.. But as you know these are expensive manifolds and worth a few $$ for repair.. Let me know if you have an interest.
