Default Heat Riser Elimination

The heat riser valve on my 79 L-48 rattles and i'd really like to get rid of it. I've seen a spacer that can be substituted for the valve...anybody know where to get one ?

You may not wish to fight with those exhaust manifold studs. That can turn into a nightmare. A local muffler shop welded mine open and rattle-free for about $5.00.

Zip and Corvette Central have the spacers in both 2 inch and 2 1/2 inch. You should have a 2 inch spacer.

I went the headers route and don't think I'll ever look back. Before that though, I used a coat hanger to keep embarrassment away.

Make your own spacer from the old one. Take it off, cut the flap out, pull the shaft; then you can weld, thread and tap for a bolt, or use a plug to block the hole. Virtually free. You do have to deal with the studs for this one, so consider that.

I did the same thing. I believe a 1/4" pipe tap and plug fit the shaft hole.
