After replacing the heater core I decided to freshen the carpet and replace it too. My questions is what the correct installation manner to be used around the outboard seat belts. Specifically, does the carpet cover the bolt in guide plate or do you trim the carpet wround it? Does the carpet go on after bolting the guide plate down or afterwards?
I cut a small slice in the carpet so the guide plate (the cast iron L-bracket) could poke through the carpet, then install the plastic molding on top of that. I think it's the same as a 73.
The biggest problem I had was fitting the rear compartment side carpet pieces. It didn't seem like they were cut to nearly the right size and it took hours of test fitting and trimming to get it right. Good luck!
Not sure if it was the original carpet or not, but my 68 covered the guide plates and had ~6" cuts in the carpet to allow the belt to escape. The hole was trimmed with a special "grommet". I think the grommet only lasted a couple years, though (if that).
