I recently had a bit of work done on my '69 that involved the headlights and wiper door.
Anyway, all is fine except now my dash & gauges lights don't come on.
I checked the fuse and it seems ok but I will replace it anyway tomorrow to be sure. If that's not it.... is the headlight switch the likely culprit? The dimmer portion of the headlight switch had been working poorly for awhile also, so maybe a new headlight swiitch was in my future anyway. Just trying to figure out if that is the problem or not.
I can take it back for the mechanic to fix but usually try to at least order the parts I need prior to taking it in as the garage is busy and they don't want to have to store the car while the parts are omn order. I also try and combine more than one repair if it's going to be dropped off.
Just if you decide to remove anything to check bulbs, be super careful. My Speedo bulb went out, and when I removed the face to change the bulb The needle ripped off and I had to buy a whole new setup.
I have this same problem on my 77 and I already changed the light switch. If you decide to try replacing the switch be aware that there is a release button on the switch assembly that allows the pull **** to be removed. Look at the new part to find it before you even start. I found the wiring for the dimmer portion of the switch assembly to be scorched but after replacing it I still had no dash lamps. I did get my interior lights to come on when I open my doors and the left turn signal indicate properly on the dash now. I figure I have a short down stream of the switch that I am just going to have to track down.
Try turning the dimmer control back and forth many times. Sometimes the coiled reostat wiring gets dirty and funky. Sweeping the control may clean the switch.
