Got hit by a rock yesterday and made a couple of pretty shiny spiders on the glass just in time for Haloween - CRAP!
Following behind a pair of dirty dump trucks on the freeway and one threw up a stone. I have the glass guy sceduled to come out later today. Replacement glass at my house for $161.74 out the door. Not real bad but still more than I would have liked to spend on the car this week. They say you gotta drive them but this makes me want to wrap it in bubble plastic.
replace the windshield for $161.74? That doesn't sound right. I thought they come out to your house and fix cracks in your windshield.... for $50 or so...

I have had repairs done to other cars in the past. They offered to do the repair for me at about $60 but I am electing to replace it unless it makes more sense to just do the repair?
The car is very nice and I am very picky about it. Since the repair would be visible, I think it would bother me. We had a Nissan Maxima for my wife to drive and we did do the repair on that one but it was not a cherished member of the family if you know what I mean. What is an extra $100 when we are talking about a C3? I did think the price was reasonable, yes?
Maybe I am making too much out of this but this car has about 46K original miles and needs nothing inside or out. It has been a garage queen for many years. Took the original tires off a few months ago so it would be safe to drive once in a while. It has had one repaint in laquer about 10 years ago and still looks wet. Fresh engine overhaul, and SS brakes too.
Sorry for the rant but I feel like a teenager with her first zit on prom night I guess you just gotta drive our babies and take the wear and tear that comes with it.
Wow did you ever get a good deal. Replaced my windshield last year and it was $250.
kona
If you want a tip, I called Safelite and asked for a quote. They told me about the regular cost $259 and so on. When they asked if I wanted to go ahead and scedule an appt at $202.16, I said I was just looking for the best price and would make a few more calls first. They asked what it would take to seal the deal right now and I said "what 'ya got?". The guy says he will give me the best bottom dollar price he is authorized to give and knocked $40 off (161.74) That is when I whipped out the plastic. Tuck that idea away for if you all ever need a replacement piece of glass.
I will post later about how the job went and if they would be a recomended supplier.

great price!!! make sure there is no funny deflections in the glass when you look through it, do this as best you can before they install it or they will have to come back and do it again... ask me how i know....

Oh well,

That's a good deal. The best I could find a few weeks ago was $145 carry-out. For $15 I'd gladly have someone install it for me. That way, if they crack it on installation, it's there's.
The techs just left. They were afraid to tear the car apart and I was worried too. I had them do the repair job and it looks about 80-90% better. I am not sure what the charge will be because I did not sign any repair order after the job was done. The guy just said "not to worry about it". Looks like it might be a "special deal".

I had a rock hit my suburban windshield. State Farm paid for the repair to the winshield.
All it cost me was a half hour of my time

You can be glad it was a small rock. My friend Evan was racing his C5 at the SCCA Double Nationals at Pocono and " caught a rock". Put a nice gash in his hood and "totalled" his windshield.
