Does battery terminal = starter terminal?

Does battery terminal = starter terminal?

I'm installing an electric fan and the directions want the in-line fuse within 12 inches of the battery. Of course I'd rather hook to the starter than fish through the interior to get to the battery itself. I know guys have gone to the starter...I'm just wondering what's behind this 12 inch rule and whether going to the starter is cheating.

No problem The big wire is the other end of the battery cable.. (yes it is really long) Just disconnect the battery when you do the job so you won't short out with the wrench.

Direct to the starter should be fine.

Going to the starter is fine. You want the fuse as close to the power source as possible so if it grounds it will blow at the beginning & not burn wires to the fan.
