I'd like to put in a radio/combo cd player into the 72, replacing the stock type am/fm/cassete player. I know I'll have to whittle on the console to do this, but that doesn't bother me. Question is, where can I find a reasonable priced unit? And what about speakers? Are my old ones ok, or should I get better ones? I think the current speakers are 60 watt. What amp rating is prefered? I don't know squat about these things, so any advice is much appreciated.

I'm no expert either. I went to Circuit City and they fixed me up with a nice unit and speakers. It was easy since they have all the different units right there in front of you to look at.
Also if you don't want to tear up your original bezel they are now producing them with a DIN cutout think they are around $100.

The '72 and other early C3's have a contoured bezel, which presents more of an issue than the '77-'82 cars, which have a flat plastic bezel. Somebody makes an bezel adapter for the earlier cars, but I'm not sure who -- perhaps someone will chime in with this info.

Default cd player

i think that putting in a cd player is the only way to go .most cd players have 150 to 200 watts of power and thats all that i need ,then you dont have to look for a place to put in a amp.

Check Mid America They carry bezels and bezel / radio sets that are already hacked. I would keep the original bezel in one piece.

The power ratings of CD players are way over rated. You effectively get maybe half of the listed power. If you want to rock with the T-Tops out going 70 mph you'll want an external amp(s). I bought a Pioneer, but there are many good brands. It's been noted on the forum before about bright displays lighting up the whole interior. That I can attest to is true!

I managed to squeeze two amps in the compartment behind the passenger seat of my 80.

I found a guage bezel on Ebay for about $70 and cut the DIN opening with a dremel tool. It's not too difficult, but you have to be careful.
