Default Restoring Chassis - Cost

How much will is cost to Restore the chassis on a 72 vette if I do the work myself. I have a perfect frame that I got a great deal on. I have seen some shops that are selling a fully restored rolling chassis for 8,000 or 9,000. Is that a good deal?

I suppose that depends on what you mean by restore. Are you talking just frame and suspension or frame/suspension/drivetrain as well? I assume by your post you're starting with a bare frame? Paint or powdercoat?

Lots of things come into play.

Talk to Van Steel. They have a rolling frame restoration for $4500 or so. I did my own using their parts and guess what it cost close to that anyway. They can also acid dip and powder coat.

If your spending $9K I would also consider a C4 fitted c3 frame. There is a place in CA that sells rebuilt frames with C4 suspension for around $10K

I would be restoring the suspension and drivetrain. Most of the rolling chassis I have seen include a diff but no drive train. Do include brakelines, fuel lines, and brakes. I know the cost difference between painting or powdercoating the frame, usually you can get it either way and they just charge you the difference.

For 9K I'd sink my money in a tubular frame setup for C4 or C5 suspension

9k is a lot of dough for a standard rolling chassis (drivetrain excluded). If you're did the work youself, you should be able to do it for half that easily.

The cost will all depend on the components that you already have.
Will you be satisfied with stock control arms in front ?
Are the stock spring setups good for you ?
Do you have the spindles/trailing arms/brakes/hardware from
a donor ?

If just rebuilding the stock components and doing much of the work
yourself, it should come in between 1 and 2 grand. If you just want to
buy new goodies and bolt 'em up, I'd say 2 to 4 grand.

I have just about $1000 into my chassis (counting the rebuilt
TAs that I bought years back). I still need to rebuild the brake calipers
($150) and restore my gas tank. I do ALL the work, and
have chosen to stick with stock suspension (for the most part).
