Borg Warner trans Question

HP/TQ numbers, mine blew shortly after I installed the 406ci and the second one I put in although I haven't actually put my foot to the floor yet is making some noise already. I contacted Tex Racing and this is what they replied when I inquired about one of their beefed up units
"I suspect you may need the modified t56 6 speed to get something that will handle the HP and torque this car is putting out. The t10's will not hold up to your car. I can improve them some but am afraid it will not be enough.
The t56 is not the same dimensions as the orignal t10. "
I am putting in the nieghbourhood of 500ft/lbs to the clutch and where the problem lies I think is because of the roller cam I have a very broad/flat torque curve so it is not a peak 500ft/lbs but a sustained 500ft/lbs over that only varies about 50ft/lbs from 2000RPM to 5000RPM and this I think twists the aluminum case and then you get failures, seem 2nd and 3rd are the ones that go
To answer your question I would not put any more than about 400Ft/lbs and 450HP thru one

I've changed my mind a bit now and plan to seek more rpm and less torque on my next engine (whenever that happens - but could be anytime if racing).
Ya know i don't feel a heavy duty 5 or 6 speed is worth all the money or effort to install correctly well to me anyways. U need correct alignment angle for driveshaft and a custom driveshaft with correct yoke. Shifter mods too. And i just changed to 3.70 rear gear set and don't want to change again for an OD.Now i can afford T-10's at $1,500 a pop but not $5,000-$7,000 to install a Keisler trans with a correct rear gear set. Not that there's anything wrong with those 5 speeds - thier a great trans. But the difference would pay for new paint and possibly a wound-up little 355" sb too. What i'm saying is if u can afford the time and money for a Keisler go for it as it is a diffinite improvement.
If u want torque numbers just go to the Richmond Gear website but i recall something like 330 ft-lbs for most thier T-10's. They don;t rate them for hp.
Myself i'll stay with the small c.i. mtrs so i can run the standard driveline equipment. I may never see 500 hp but i'll get more time on the road than under the car on jackstands with only 400 hp or less. And hey, if i really need a new mtr fast i can just drop it off at the Chevy dealer for a ZZ4 (or even fastburn maybe) with thier labor and warrenty. The rest of my vette is rebuilt now and i won't worry 'bout any suspension or drive line pieces.
Ok i'll shut up now but this topic has got me thinking out loud and i see others may share these ideas.
Good night.
