Default "76 Stingray

[COLOR=DarkOrange]Hello everybody this is my frist time on the forum. This is my frist vette project.
I have just purchased a "76 Vette for a project. I am looking for any advice you can give me toward the rebuild of this vette. What hints or clues can you give me? When I bought it the eng. had just been rebuilt both top and bottom. The body is in really great shape & the frame only has a small amount of surface rust. The interior is trashed. I have torn everything apart and am getting ready for the clean up & restoration. I have not decided on a color yet so if you have photo's of prospect colors please send them.

Thanks: Vettecus

......Put the interior back together quick and drive it

......interior parts are expensive, so if you stay with the existing colour you can re-use a lot of existing parts......this will save you money and time dyeing parts.........

Here's a list of '76 stock interior colours.......sorry, I don't have any colour chips......

B=Black
BG=Blue Green
DB=Dark Blue
F=Firethorn (anybody know what this is?????? Red???)
SG=Silver Gray
W=White

There is someone on the parts for sale forum with a 76 interior for sale. Check it out. I did not look too closely because I don't need any of it.

Welcome fellow 76 brother!

You must also be aware that 76 Stingrays are the next big thing

First thing to look at on your 76 is the floor. in 76 a partial steel floor replaced the fiberglass floor as a heat sheild for the catalytic converter and higher engine compartment temps. Unfortunately it was not galvanized

Before you carpet insulate

you will be amazed at the results you can get with attention to detail

Good luck and welcome to the forum, these guys are the best...

Paints and dyes really do work well! Salvage what you can! I never would have believed it had I not tried it myself!

And DO put some heat shield down. You can get it in rolls at places like PEP BOYS much more cheaply than through the catalogs!

Default Mine had lotsa rust

When I pulled the carpet to replace it, I was in for a really rusty surprise. I had to spend two days just grinding rust off the floorpans before I could treat for rust and lay down insulation. After two coats of rust inhibitor, (one Rustoleum and one POR-15) and a liberal application of Reflectix for heat, the carpet went down. Wow it sure did change the car! A lot! Now the '76 is twice as much fun to drive. Having new BMW Champagne leather on the seats helps!
