I went by the body shop and took some pics of the 69 after being media blasted
luckily no serious body damage
good to see the factory seams
apparently there was a factory luggage rack that was taken off
Ill update with pics of the finished product in a month or two...it'll be
the original "Fathom green"
I'm still finalizing a repaint on my '74 ... two local shops said not to media blast ... said sanding old paint off was the only way to go (could be that they estimate 20 shop hours just to remove old paint!) ... also is it just me or does the hood to fender gap seem HUGE now? No question that this looks like it went very quickly and that you're able to see any body repairs (like the removal of the luggage rack) ... on the media blasting what material did they use ... the one shop called the old method "soda" blasting as opposed to sand (due to fact that it was fiberglass not metal)? ... I'm sure in the long run this has its pros and cons like any other method to remove the old paint

I would be very wary of using "sanding" to remove old paint. The person behind the sander (powered) needs to know what they are doing as sanding a vette is a lot different than sanding a steel bodied car.... sanding paint can easily become sanding finerglass and you end up with a wavy panel...difficult and expensive to make right.
There's a number of members here that have used a couple of different ways to strip paint from vettes...media blasting (with a pretty fine media) , paint stripper and even razor blades.
Looking at the pics, it appears the edges of the hood/fenders/gas cap area had all been masked off before media blasting to protect the hard edges.....they look black in color...giving the impression the gap is bigger than it is.
Should have clarified ... they actually used the term "strip" not "sand" off the old paint ... not sure how they would actually get the paint off but it was to be done by hand versus using any powered tools or media blasting (hence the 20 hour estimate) As to the black paint edges ... if they did that then why not the headlight doors that way too? As I've just seen separate panels media blasted versus a whole car in the past you could know more about this process than some of the rest of us ...
yes certain areas were masked off as to keep media from getting inside the hood or doors(those spots will be sanded by hand...the color of the paint is dark green so it gives the illusion of gaps
the media used is tiny plastic beads, i dont know exactly what kind of plastic
that's funny about the tail-lights...there's no way they could have always been like that, the shop must have done that
I'm thinking with the tail lights ,the shop just taped and papered the actual lenses and used them to mask with then for the pic they ripped the paper and slamed them in just anywhere....Umm Media blasting, thats where you hire a few out of work news casters and they come down with ball peens to remove the paint from your car?
Speaking of media blasting ... now the last body shop I'm having do an estimate for me says (over the phone hasn't seen the car yet) that it may or may not be the way to go (could save me a few bucks) as my car has been painted at least 3 times it may come off easily with or without it ... yet another opinion on trying to accomplish the same thing but I would think it would take less time (translates into less labor cost I would guess!) ... did your shop subcontract out the blasting and if so you mind sharing what the cost was (flat rate or by the hour and how many hours so can adjust for regional differences in labor rates)?

how long do you estimate that to take? and what precautions do you use to not get sliced up your self....i hate razor blades i always seem to get cut....
The shop did indeed send the car out to another location to be media blasted, i wasn't too happy about that because if i had known they were to do that, i would have shopped around for a place to blast it myself, cutting out the middle man
It cost $950 and im sure i could have shopped around for a place to blast it for less
