It's hard to account for variations in labor rates by regions in the U.S., etc. but one shop had quoted me 20 shop hours to remove all of the paint which comes out to about the same price as blasting (20 X $50)= $1,000 only this was some type of stripping. The shop I'm going with says (based on now seeing my car) that he'll use the razor blade method as the body is pretty straight and it appears to have two layers of paint on it. Each shop has their own proven methods I guess ...

i see....i've heard of people using razor blades themselves...seems like it would work ok if you have time and are careful, you probably couldnt cause damage with a razor blade that some light sanding couldnt fix

Check out this thread. I've never done it, but basically, you scrape the old paint off with a razor blade. Apparently, once you get in a rhythm, it's gets a lot easier.

I could never look at my vette before paint, don't want that impression in my mind. I always want to see it looking good!
Question: why is there so much space between your hood and fenders? It looks like the hood is too small.

I am stripping my 78 with a razor blade now. I only work on it 1/2 hour or so at a time. The paint comes off easily. I use a single-edge blade in a plastic holder which I bought at the hardware store. Haven't cut myself yet and I am accident prone....

There is no space, it just appears that way because it was taped off there and the color of the paint is dark green

Mlub: What is the paint update report on your 69? Any new photos of the process? Are you still pleased --at this point--with the Round Rock, Tx. paint shop quality of work?

I have seen a vette soda blasted, was quite cool as it actually polished the window, chrome bumpers and aluminum parts on the car. Up here it is $700 cdn if they come to you and $600 if you take your vette to them.
