What makes a StringRay a StingRay? Are all Sharks StingRays? Some? Are all C-3's Sharks? Are all C2 Vettes StingRays? I read everything I can get my hands on, but I still haven't figured this out yet. A little help for the rookie ?:*****
Some Corvette history & knowledge is helpful to ID a Stingray.
63-67 In 63, the new smaller body & chassis w/ I.R.S. was called a Sting Ray.
68-77 When the body was redone in 68 at first called Sting Ray & then used Stingray emblems in 69. Emblems are for identification & some can not identify w/o the emblem. Seems some place far more importance on emblems than the factory ever did. The factory wanted to change the new car so that it could be identified as new at the time.
Stingray has a meaning & is not an option or emblem, some are unmarked.
Chassis essentially same from 63-77, body essentially same 68-77 & interior essentially same from 68-77.
There can be no question that 68-77 are Stingrays.
Sice it dosent' say it anywhere on the car, and Stingray is just an emblem how is a 68' "technically" a stingray and a 78' isnt'???
Well 68`s do not have any Stingray emblems and are inappropriately called Stingrays by some people. I dont have any idea why some call the 68`s sharks either. My guess is that it resembles the Mako concept car but that dont mean it`s a shark. My 68 is pure VETTE.
im so tired of reading this topic- so worn out here
Why I find it interesting and appreciate each view I would like to know if my 80 is a "Shark" "StingRay" or whatever. I might incorporate it in my paint scheem when I paint the car!
we should ask lottahp if he could make some stickers for 77 to 82 's- for there fenders,,,we can call it a ''SHARKRAY'' -- or STING SHARK- HE DID SUCH A NICE JOB ON THE ncrs stickers!!!---------now this is supposted to be funny so please no postal e mails- or ill have to start passin out prozak
I get sick of explaining to people that Stingray doesn't mean anything. I tell them I have a Corvette and they ask if it's a Stingray. Well, it's a '77, so no, but Stingray doesn't mean anything. Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges.
