Default '74-79 Mpg???

I have been the happy owner of an '86 Z51 for the past year and a half. Now I am wanting to get a C3 for a daily driver. The trek I make to work everyday is all highway miles. I was wondering what kind of gas mileage I could expect for a '74'-'79 Vette? I know it won't be as good as my '86, but just curious. Thanks in advance.

Don't use overdrive in your 86 for about 1 week and you'll have an idea of how bad the MPG is on a 75-79. 82 would probably be best out of the C3's as a DD because they have OD and fuel inject.

The simple answer is "no" -- the mid-70s Corvettes will NOT get anywhere near as good gas mileage for one simple reason: the 70s Corvettes were carbureted, and the 80s cars had fuel injection.

Solution? Retrofit a TPI fuel injection system into a 70's Vette.

And, as mentioned, an OD tranny helps a lot, too

I'm getting between 15-17mpg highway in my 79 but I'm not running the stock L82 smog engine. I yanked it and have it stored. My 79 has the stock 355 rearend. See my profie for engine mods.

The hump that runs down the middle of the car on the inside, is not the transmission housing....it's the fuel line.....

Last time I measured I got 15-16mpg. Driving on the highway... quickly. That was with upgraded intake and cam. With new heads, headers, and 2.5" exhaust (up from 2") it seems to be a little worse, but not too terrible.

I made a trip from Minot, ND to Spokane, WA and back in the end of August. I averaged 22 mpg while my best was 24 mpg. I have a '79 with 57,000 miles on the odometer now.
