fauxs- very clean! not often seen on a C3. how much prep work for the fiberglass?
Surprisingly little.. a little laquer thinner ona towel will take off much of the factory black - scuff with a pad - prep-sol and tack rag...I primed it with spraycans believe it or not which was my biggest concern, but that came out fine.
After priming - scuff again - prep-sol and tack rag.

i think i need to sleep on this....maybe satin black isn't such a bad idea after all.......
After looking at all those engine bays, I've realized wasn't creative at all going with the std black job! Now I'm gonna have to pull the works and redo the engine bay again!

Since you are sharing a few post spraying shots here is a few of mine from the paint job....
This was right after we pushed the car back in the garage - basecoat and clearcoat are easy to spray...since its the engine compartment - no sanding and buffing - much of it gets covered by this.....
this is what was put in the car...engine is black - wondering now if it should have been body color too
close up of the passenger side with new coolant recovery bottle - also new a-arm splash shields installed.
Everything pretty muich back in place and awaiting engine - but first we had to repaint the core support...
it was really simple and the actual prep and paint didnt take more than a weekend...thought the engine was out for some time.

wow that blows me away....my engine has exactly the same look to it...you would think you were seeing double.. show me more pics as you get them...thks bob
With an all black car, you might want to paint the motor orange or the original blue, then carry that color as a highlight in the engine compartment. Using the spatter technique on black or grey would set off the motor well. In the 90's it was trendy to use granite looking paint, but I think that fad is over. But that mottled look using a contrasting color might be cool. My brother did some cool effects on my bike using a toothbrush or a small paintbrush to splatter different colors on the base. It might take a long time to do a whole engine compartment that way, though. It's good that people are thinking outside the box, if all cars were 100 point restorations it would be pretty boring. Joe

i painted my engine compartment gloss / epoxy black, the only exception I made was my roll bar, I painted red. When your working up from half a car you just wont to get on the road............LOL
