I have an engine question. I am considering buying a stroker engine to replace my tired 350/270 in my 71. I have found a place in called
South State Speed Shop that has a 377 Cubic Inch SBC stroker that produces 405 HP. for $3900. It includes intake and carb (600CFM Edlebrock), Mallory HEI distributor, Flex plate. All internal are new including crank, lunatic cam (225 @ .50) Pro 67 cc heads, and aluminum intake (Stealth). Any one had dealings with this shop?
Not bad but a 600 cfm carb on a 400 HP 377 sounds small to me. Make sure you are really getting what they advertise.
Yea I find that hard to believe, should be a least a 750 or 800 cfm to get that kind of HP. I have a 383 with and Edlebrock 800 cfm and a Air Gap intake, fast burn heads, headers, plus roller roker cam and will only get about 480 HP at the crank.
600 cfm is plenty for a mild 4.00 X 3.750 377 ci motor. You can run a 500 hp motor on 600 cfm.
You should find out the internals of this motor. Generally you get what you pay for. to make a profit thay have to use the lessor cost rotating assemblies. But at 400 hp and being a stroker it will really make your 71 go.
Without being to wordy internal include the following to go along with the New prepped GM 4 bolt bolt standard bore block
Speed Pro Hyperutectic Pistons 9.5:1
Childs & Albert Rings
Fed Mogul Brgs. New Cast Steel Crankshaft w/ .125 radius
Manley Hi Volume-Hi pressure oil pump
Lunatic Cam
New Pro 67 cc Heads with stainless valves
1.5 Ratio long slot rockers
New I beam floating rods
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I had to look it up and they say it is a new GM block standard bore, can't understand why a machine shop doesn't just machine one of the millions of 350 blocks out there instead of buyng a new block, just does not make sense, especially since it is not a high dollar builup.
A few things bug me and either the guy is a genius or he is been sniffing too much racing fuel. Time is money and he says the small Edelbrock carb is "blueprinted" , yea looks good to me . And he is using a Manley high volume/ high pressure oil pump for a mild street motor.
There is a company here in OKC that will sell me bare standard bore small blocks all day long. They are the one piece main seal blocks that come standard with roller cams. The roller cam is not included, but the block is set up for it. I've considered starting a stroker buildup with one of these several times. The bare 2 bolt block is like $450 and the 4 bolt is another $50-$100. By the way, he has literally tons of LS blocks and heads also. He guys bulk overstock parts from GM.
