Default Th 350 ?

Shifting problem...

what is happening

THe tranny won't shift unless the rpm's are at 3K. Last time i had a shifting problem, it was a vacuum line, so i checked them, but they are fine. SOmeone else suggested a vacuum modulator, so i swapped it out, and now its shifting even higher.

If i put in L1 at the light, and shift manually, it seems to shift ok.

Any idea's. Is the vacuum modulator adjustable.

Did you check the fluid level when the car was running?

checked it earlier this week and topped it off.

i'll take anouther look in a bit

as a side note, is it suppose to puke fluid when the modulator is removed?

I had the same problem with 81 after shop rebuilt 350. The vac hose split right at the modulator and was suck'in air.

i think i'm gonna stop and get a 6ft piece of vaccum hose and by pass the metal line to see if that helps. if nothing else, it'll eliminate one thing

don't know the answer but what exactly happens when a torque converter starts to fail???
does it stop working totally or does the rpm increase/decrease before it engages???
