I'm in between. If the custom autosound units worked better, I'd like them but I've had one that didn't work very well and for very long and I've heard a lot of complaints from other forum members.
So my compromise is a modern DIN style that is all black to match the console. A lot of the newer ones even have ***** that are like a modernized version of the old **** style.
These are between $150 and $250:
I also think that the new stuff looks right at home in a C3.For you **** types and I mean that in a good way. There is a place (sorry can't remember the name)that will take your stock radio and put in modern guts of your choice. You want 200 watts they can do that.Need RCA plugs they will do that to.If you are interested I think I can dig up the name.
I just installed a am/fm cassette from CCA an old looking style radio and added a simple single Disk player that will tuck between the seat and console.
Not a multi disk system but it's better than a cassette.
I'm running a Kenwood 12 disk FM Modulator which plugs into your existing arial hole on your radio ...........only drawback is it only sounds as good as your FM sounds :|
Wow AGVI, looks good. Just right for the late model C-3's. I don't think you could pull that look off in an early shark tho..Whetever I get, It has to have a remote, yet look subtle in the dash when off. Not too crazy about all of the new style designs...But this would be very cool...
I have the Custom Audio Sounds made to fit head unit with the Kenwood guts. It drives a 10 disk changer in the Jack compartment along with the 2 channel amp for the removable 10" speaker boxes tha tuck nicely under the convertable top Frame.
There is enough space in the jack compartment to add a second 10 disk magazine for the CD player.
Unfortunately, my digital camera died, so I can't show you a picture, but I mounted a new head unit under the center rear compartment lid. I got one with a remote control, so all I have to do is point at it with the remote to change the station or turn the volume up. I have not yet installed some sort of slick prop rod to keep the lid up since I never got around to it. I'll see if I can borrow a camera to post a pic.
Mine definitely needs some improvement! Note the custom temporary gauge mount! Anyway, that Kenwood looks cool above. I mainly listen to my MP3 player and MP3s burned on a cd so am looking for maybe just an amp that my toys can plug into. Don't need FM since I hate commercials and don't want to spend money for satellite! The hole would look good filled with some permanently mounted gauges!
When you buy a Vette and build it to drag race with the equipment you have suggested, the last thing you will ever hear is a sterio system. Are you sure you know what you want; a race car, which is great, or something in between? It is almost impossible to build a car to do everything well.
