Pat, looks good so far. I put my son in my cars from when they were 2 years old. Put in the car seat and away we went. They really did not know wha tkind of car they were in until about age 8. My son used to fall asleep every time we went for a ride. I thought the noise would keep him awake but it actually put him to sleep. The ydo cut into Vette time a little but you have to make time and include them in it. Have fun.
What brand of fresh air system do you have and where do you
place the inlet box?
Am asking as my own garage is 24 x 34 and is well insulated. I have
55000 BTU natural gas wall furnace that has a sealed burner chamber
for safety. Puts out plenty of heat for working in the garage.
When painting I put a box fan in one window and open several others
a bit to draw in fresh air. Furnace can not keep up.
So can only paint small jobs in the winter.
In the warmer months, I open two windows to let in fresh air and
put box fans in the other two. That works well.
Currently only have a charcaol mask but think I should get a fresh
air system.
I'm curious as to why you are sanding the basecoat before clearing? Why not clear right away after applying the base coat? I'm a newbe at BC/CC systems and am about to do my first soon so am learning. Thanks! Looks very nice BTW. Cool color mix. Can't wait to see after the CC, sand and buff!
Because thats not the color the car is gone to be,electronblue is a very transparent color so i use something else under it(This light blue mix) so it covers easier.Im sanding this base just to make sure everything is smooth and i didnt miss anything.

Pat I love that color. I have a new '80 project car that I am painting with that or a similar color. I was currently looking at a 2004 Dodge Dakota blue. It is dark but still bright, similar to yours. I will check your paint chip out when I go to the paint store to pick out the color I'll use. I had planned on shooting silver before the final coats of blue as well.
I wasn't to happy with the base coat clear coat system when it came out, but after the technique you have just described so well was figured out I changed my mind. It looks like the old lacquer I grew up with only it's a whole lot tougher and no cracks to deal with.
I can't wait to see the pic's when you are done with it.
Pat, You KNOW how partial I am to EB But after reading all the posts, I am still confused as to why you applied base coat with the silver/EB mix if you are going to re-apply base coat with additional coats of EB. Your old paint was EB right? why wouldn't that cover effectively
Looking forward to the final product
Bullshark,Because i ended up fixing areas that i had trouble with,(flares) so i ended up urethane priming the whole car in a buff color(after stripping alot of old paint off),and after painting this color so many times ive come to find out that whatever you start with ,the final eb color will change on top.Eb as you know is very transparant ,takes alot of coats to cover light colors(such as primer, silver )So i was looking to try and get the eb to be brighter in the sun with the silverblue tint under it.If all i was doing was repainting over the eb then yeah thats all i would of done.

So what you're really doing is a candy job, not a BC/CC.
I attemped a candy paint last spring over my original BB/CC medium quasar blue. Used HOK oriental blue tint with Kosmic Pearl Ocean Blue. I love how the pearl looks in the sun. Unlike anything ever done by the factory.
I'm gonna have to give it several more coats this spring to hide my mistakes.
He's not doing a 'candy' since EB is a true BC/CC paint, since the color changes a LOT due to the massive amounts of pearl, he is going with a lighter first coat to give it a brighter result. He used a black primer the first time around, giving him this result
I used a gray primer when I sprayed my car, and this is my end result
