What do you guys and girls plan to do to your Vettes during the winter off-months?
On my list for my '82 is, clay-bar entire car; install power door locks with only one control button which I'll install in center console between power window switches; change intake manifold gasket; new chrome wheels and tires; repaint underside of hood.
Any tips or suggestions on any of these projects would be greatly appreciated.
Mine is getting the car ready for a cross continent trip. Will head back to Montreal in the spring for my 30th High School reunion. Will drive one way through Canada and the other way through the US on the way back.
Will check the bearings, clutch, rad and cooling system and go through the entire electrical. I will rebuild my clock, put in a new heater/AC reface kit and basically fix her up to make the trip.
Just had a thought. What if we had volunteers to help out any forum member travelling across North America. I would be willing to give my phone number for any member travelling in this area that required assistance. If we got enough people doing this, a member could potentially travel Canada and the US knowing that if he/she had car trouble, a vette forum member would be there to assist. Just supply a travel route. Check the topics. I'll start a new topic on this and see if there is an interest.
Don't have too much to do other than rebuild my power window on the drivers side. New motor and regulator and new glass if I can find it. My son on the other hand has a project for me. I have to put a new cam and tunnel ram with three duece's on his 23 T-Bucket. I'll have to admit it's a blast. Sixty-seven corvette 327 bored 40 over coupled to a 350 turbo. You can just see the back of it on one of my pictures posted on the forum.
I cracked the head on my 454 so out with the motor and transmission she went. While I had it out I decided to go back with a 700r4 trans. Then I decided it was time to replace the whole suspension all the ball joints etc. It only got worse i found I needed to change the trailing arms. The car seems to be coming apart the more I look at her. Now I am just praying to get her back on the road by January.

Tips
Clay bar will take about an hour. The box will tell you to not apply much pressure, which is good advice.
Intake gasket--use a thick bead of the black silicone goo at the ends versus end gaskets. Directions from Edelbrock are good to follow.
Chrome wheels--have the mounter/balancer technician put all wheel weights on the inside. Don't let them put them on the outside rim. Consider mounting them on the car yourself, versus letting them airtool them at the shop. Once mounted, baby the wheels with frequent cleaning and waxing, or they will corrode.
Build a pulse width modulated fan driver circuit for the electric fan I am installing, build a microcontroller based security system, install power door locks, put in some decent speakers & amps and install those wicked awesome pink neon lights under the car - just joking about the last one...
4 speed conversion.............L88 headlights.............offset trailing arms..........short block for my stroker motor........oh man I am going to be busy
Right now i'm waiting on the bottom end build of my internally balanced 383 stroker, and 195 AFRs. Then slap my 4 speed on it, and throw it in the car. Oh yea..17s are on the way too.
Ive never seen snow before, I'd love to know what its like
Besides its summer here my projects for this summer will be to replace any areas of interior that need to be done, Get PWR to custom make me an alloy radiator, re-do the brake system for front and rear (4 spot fronts), change the steering wheel to a 78 original...mmmm And drive it a bit
Finish brakes, re-adjust door alignment, find engine vac leak, and try to replace my rear wheel bearings. Never did this before but will give it a go.
Eddie
Readjust the door glass and lock rods in both doors. Replace an ailing oil pressure gauge. Might pull out the rear to see if I can get rid of the whine. Some other minor interior work that has been neglected. Just purchased a set of 17s (thanks lvrpool32) so new tires also. All this just put the stroker short block on hold. Thats OK the 350 is running strong anyway.
Car is completely apart so everything I can carry down to the basement will get brushed and painted. Already started on front suspension arms and radiator support.
Removing engine. Replacing most all gaskets.
Cleaning and painting engine compartment.
New Intake Manifold.
New Tires.
Tighten up shifter (Hurst and is loose)
Tighten up drivers mirror.
