I have a great frame for my project. It currently has been blasted and has a coat of regular black paint. My questions are: 1) Is there any problem with pressure washing the inside of the frame? (Seems like a silly question but I am fearful of rust) There is some small debris inside the framerails. 2) How big of a mess is made by sparying Por 15? I may have to do it in my garage.

1 - I wouldn't pressure wash the inside. Compressed air and/or vacuum should work well.
2 - You mean spraying the inside or outside ? I just brushed mine
(outside). It came out fine. I don't think spraying POR15 is worth the
mess and trouble.
Sorry - just re-read ... inside I guess. Some people have had limited
success with using a bug sprayer. Also, you might be able to find spray
equipment for rustproofing that will work.
If your planning on painting the inside of the frame, it will have to be cleaned to remove dirt, oils, and rust. I would have had the inside sand blasted at the time the outside was done. I'm not sure if there would be complete access to the full area of the inside of the frame. I would try and brush on POR-15 where possible, and then come up with some way to spray to hit the areas where the brush would work or reach. The surface should be treated with the Metal Ready prior to painting.
Thanks for the advice. I will probably just brush it on. I think the frame was blasted some on the inside as well as I don't even see surface rust. They guy had it laying outside for a couple days before I came to pick it up and there is some grass and dirt inside the rails. I will just give it a good spraying with my airgun.

Do people really try to paint the inside of the frame? Even with a bug sprayer or paint sprayer, how effective could you be spraying through those tiny holes?
i had to repl. a section of frame of my 72 (rear kickups and crossmember) i cut frame open in several places in addition to replaced section and sandblasted then i primered and painted both inside and out. i used a cheap engine cleaner sprayer with compresed air to do the inside. it has a 90 degree end on it and it worked fine. sprayed the inside twice then i cleaned up runs and overspray off of the frame and out of the garage then i shot the outside. it was a pain in the a. but i did not want to repair the frame again.

many years ago i bought a rust proofing kit from Eastwood that had a wand and different size nozzles etc. and you use their rust proofing goop which was very gooey and sticky, just for kicks i put some of this on mild steel that 1/4 had been sprayed with this, 1/4 had nothing, 1/4 had cold galvanizing spray and the last 1/4 had galvanizing spray and this..left it ouside for two years on top of the electrical meter....it worked great...
when doing the body -off on my 73 we took the bare frame and had it blasted in and out- then the frame got 2 coats of por-15 and a top coat of g.m. chassis black--- i wanted to get a z-bart wand to spray por-15 inside the frame rails( por has to be thinned to spray),, z-bart would not sell it to me ,,so i said screw it and let them z-bart the inside of the frame... after finishing rollin chassis and body drop,, i took it to another z-bart dealer with the reciept from the first(it was a year later) and shot the inside of the frame again-( like $30.00 the second time)-- my reasoning was to get the second guy to coat where the first one may have missed- every year,, if i feel like takin it in ,,its the same fee- only if you dont drive in rain, snow, and salt,, there's really no need to do it every year,-
I just finished the inside of my frame a few weeks ago. i bought a sray gun kit from j.c whitney it worked well with my compressor . a little messy but not real bad
The guy who sold me the Por at Carlisle said that he tied a sponge to a wire snake and draged it through the frame to "paint" the inside. Doesn't sound as good as using a wand but he swore it was better??
i was also told that sponge story, just couldnt figure out how to get the sponge in those small frame holes! another told me to soak a rag in por-15 and tie two strings, pulling back and forth- i dont think it would be that e/z,, and with por it would very messy-somehow spraying seems the better way to go- this is why i threw in the towel and let z bart squirt its stuff in there----
You can’t drag a rag or sponge thru the frame from end to end. My 69 frame has bulkheads that space the two halves of the rails together when they are welded. I’m guessing that’s what they are for? I got an undercoating gun from Eastwood, hooked up a piece of plastic hose to extend the sprayer and the head and went at it from both ends of the frame. Then took the nozzles (spray in different directions) and squirted in all the holes. I believe I coated it all. The Por-15 has to be thinned a little to get it to spray. Worst part of the job is cleaning up. Did this to the inside of the birdcage also.
