Installed an Edelbrock #1406 carb on my 79 vette. How do I hook up the tranny shift down linkage as well as the cruise rod? Doesnt seem to be enough holes on the new carb. All I have hooked up now are the throttle cable and the return springs.
Thx , ESU in NY.
i got the same carb and can send you photos if you don't have it solved by tomorrow.... I am currently not at home so I can't post pics and show you how mine is connected right now... email me if you need photos...
The Edelbrock #1406 comes complete with a kickdown ball stud to bolt on. It is also sold separately. The Holley 4160 I took off uses a ball fitting as well but the kickdown bracket tends to twist on that configuration so I went with a flat-style stud (Holley PN 20-40) to prevent that movement. These studs are only a couple of dollars. My solution may not apply to your application as you have a kickdown cable with an end fitting that probably is designed to grab the ball. But I am unsure about that.
Paul, the ball stud I used for the throttle linkage, since it only came with one stud I figured that was the most important. You would think edelbrock would have provided 2 studs. Anyway, this morning I picked up and edelbrock flat stud to use on the tranny linkage and it seems to be working OK. Omly problem is I used the hole for the return spring to mount the stud so now I'm trying to figure out where to hook up the return springs. I see from your photo you mounted them going forward instead of towards the rear of the car, unfortunately the alternator bracket blocks my view of how the hooked up. Did you rig or fabricate something?
Thx, ESU in NY.
No I didn't fab or bubba. Unfortunately we are speaking of apples-and-oranges to a certain extent: a 1967 vrs a C3. I thought the pics might give you some ideas.
The two front springs are hooked into an accelerator return spring bracket. Completely stock and runs about $10.00 from the various vendors. It mounts on the two front intake manifold bolts. The two springs are there to provide redundancy on throttle return in case one spring breaks. The pic shows the Holley/Edelbrock conversion about 1/2-way through. You can see the bracket with two holes.
