I checked the resources you listed. Good stuff! I wonder if I can gin up a sensor that will give idle readings even if I don't want to weld a bung and instead only want to stick it up the tailpipe like they do at the emissions stations... Would make tuneups easy! Thanks!
Interesting..i know a guy with a fastburn 385 and NO hot cam and his car dynoed 308hp at the WHEELS! Yours sounds like its got a timing issue, and potential hp is there..you'll find it.
Yep, my throttle is oping 100%...i had my uncle take it for a drive and we then looked at the carb and saw the back bowl was too full so we adjusted that. hopefully tomm i can get the distributor installed and timed and take it for another drive...Hope this michigan weather allows me to.
Put the new MSD distributor and Coil in today...Set timing to 34 degrees. Took it for a drive...its hard to tell if it is any different because drives are to far between. Next step is the air/fuel ratio. then i'm dynoing it again.
Stick an O2 sensor in the collector and read the output with a multimeter. My bbc runs good at around 900 millivolts. Any other method of carb tuning is guesswork. Also, the only time you need a large spread between the primary and secondary jet sizes is if you run a power valve plug in the secondary side. Otherwise, square jetting (or a size or 3 larger) is fine. But I agree with the others, it was prolly the timing gving a low HP number. Get that right and then work on the fuel mixture.
