idle mixture on 79 Q-Jet

idle mixture on 79 Q-Jet
how do you gain access to the idle mixture screws on this era of Q-Jet? I know they're sealed but I know there is a way to open 'em up. just don't know how to do it. thanks for the help.

i replaced the 79 quadra on my 79 vette with one from edelbrock, the original is sitting in a box in the garage attic, but from what i remember. the area around the mixture screws looked like it was ripped opened by some sort of tool. i mentioned this to a mechanic friend and he said that there was a tool made that broke thru the pot metal covering the mixture screws. i have never seen this tool, i would guess that you could carefully drill the pot metal away from the screw openings.

If the steel caps are still in place, you pull the carb off, flip it upside-down, and break out the casting between the dotted marks under the mixture screws. This will allow the caps to be knocked out. For a cleaner removal, you can drill the steel caps and pry them out without breaking out the bottom of the throttle plate casting. The screws then take a special tool to adjust them (available from NAPA).
