Dynomax Mufflers
Aside from the obvious price difference, can anyone tell me the differences between these Dynomax mufflers. I've decided this is the brand I'm going to buy, but since I blew most of my exhaust money on the engine, I'm trying to do this in an economical fashion.
I believe the turbo mufflers have chambers in them while the Ultraflows, like mine, are a straight through design much like the magnaflows. Mine are fairly quiet at idle and cruise but open up like the old glasspacks on acceleration. I've also noticed that they've gotten a little louder in the past year or so.

I've been to the website and can find info on all the above except the Boss Turbo's. Because they are only $18 each, I'm a little more curious about them.
But it was comments like they are quiet at cruise but loud when you put your foot down that sold me on the Dynomax. I have a Flowmaster system on my truck, which is fine. But that is only because the muffler is under the bed and the exhaust exits the vehicle about 9' behind the driver's seat.
UltraFlows are of stainless steel construction and carry a lifetime warrantee (at least mine are/do) at a fraction of the cost of Borlas (also SS). Also, IMHO, they sound better than the Borlas and are reported to give better horsepower. In fact, IMHO, they sound better than just about anything and provide hp with the best of them!
If it is only a money issue and this is the last part(s) that keep you from driving.... just get some 'el cheapos" and upgrade later. I don't think there's any muffler for less than $20 that can make you happy (performance and sound) ...
just my 2c.....

RedBad1979 - I probably will end up doing exactly what you have said. I suppose this is my last hurdle before trying to license the car. Unless of course I can't get it past the inspection, which I highly expect.
I have the dynomax race bulelts, 3"in .out and short style (16"??) on my truck, they are cheap & loud, just the way I like it.Maybe it's a nice option?

Advance Auto and AutoZone have mufflers for 14.95...... funny cartoons on the box ... that will do it for now....

the bullets are best of cheap and loud, if you want quiter look below them in the summit catalog and you should see the oval version, like $65 each, the bullets are only ~$35.

Super Turbos are fairly inexpensive - I have 'em & they have a nice growl. Next dynomax mufflers I'll get will be the welded ultra-flo's.
Great mufflers
super turbos here, sound absolutely fantastic. Quiet at idle, and absolutley nastly sounding when you get on it. More than enough to scare small children. And yes, they can quite easily set off mercedes car alarms.

I have them, too, with the MAD 2.5" true dual exhaust system. I don't know about setting off car alarms, but the tone is nice w/o being obnoxious(and I have a decibel meter!). Let me know if you want to listen to them b4 I put the car away for the winter.....

Master Ho - What do you mean before you put it away for winter. We've already had a couple good snows this year. Where are you, I'd love to hear a set of Dynomax in person. I know their website has a sounds page, but nothing can replace what you hear with your own ears.
I have the super turbos on my 1980 and with the cat cut out they sound fine. At idle they are a little louder then stock but when you step on it they come alive. The sound is bearable and not extremley loud that will give you a headache. Hope this helps.
