Just wondering how labor intensive it is to rebuild the rear suspension and replace the drive and half-shafts. I have a limited winter break and was wondering how deep I should get into this. I will either be doing this or installing new heads and cam. There's just too much to do and if i don't finish the car by the end of next summer I'm going to have to sell it.
It's not that difficult, the half shafts, U-joints, spring and shocks is a piece of cake. The most difficult part is the trailing arm bushings - I had to cut the trailing arm bolts, what a pain... once they are out it is all easy....
The lower shock mounts can be a pain, too .... again, I had to cut mine off because they were rusted so bad and wouldn't move at all...
You should start with the suspension and the U-joints if you suspect them to be bad... if you add HP with cam and heads they are likely going to fail anyway... then you're screwed....

Thats what I was thinking, the thought of a 35 year old halfshaft flying through the rear half of my car is terrifying.
