Got Hooker 4" side pipes, ceramic coating. The first ones were made of several stainless steel pipes welded together, in the shape of an O filled with o 's. (if that description helps)
Thinking of making a perforated cone...
How long have the 'glasspacks' lasted?
I am using one of these in each side with the center hole open. It is too loud for real street driving. Two in each side with the center hole blocked may be a better choice.
Summit offers stainless mufflers in 3.5" outer diameter (24" or 30" long) - these could be welded in a 4" sidepipe ...

Thanks for the tip, but I need to be able to take them out so I can slip in the current resonator for inspections... I don't have a problem with the loudness, but police may
They are made of 3" perforated tubing and the rods are welded in position. The absorbing material is steelwool.
To hold them in place i drilled a hole in the pipes and welded a nut on to the muffler. Then just bolt it down.
I still like my $20.00 Dynomax Magnum glasspacks...IMO best sounding sidepipe muffler out there....and I've tried a few.(including the exalted spiral baffled)

Comp, I was probably one of the first to dyno test the JCL baffles on my 69 with a 502. The gist of it was that I only lost 6 horsepower from open sidetubes on a 350 rwhp motor. This was with the caps still on the baffles. The amazing thing was I lost 92 horsepower with the Hooker mufflers. I absolutely love the sound of them as well. Now my motor is making over 600 horsepower and I am running the baffles uncapped and cut some. In this configuration on an engine dyno I only lost 12 horsepower. Pretty impressive in my book. They are expensive but I wanted to run sidepipes and make horsepower and I think these are the best way outside of running open sidetubes. Period.
After seeing how pathetic the Hooker mufflers were, I fabbed up a set of my own. I used some 2 1/2" Purple Hornie glasspacks, welded them up so they would locate inside the sidepipes correctly. They made great power but were way too loud. I went with the JCL spiral baffles and have been very happy with them.
I made these prototype mufflers to see if I could make an adjustable side pipe muffler. End result: uncapped they were as loud as open headers, with the baffle on it wasn’t much better. It’s hard to see in the picture but there was a gap around the outside edge of the removable baffle and the 4” side pipe.
