didja ever get caught in no man's land approaching a green light that turned yellow? Too fast to stop easily and not close enough to make the yellow. I found myself there last weekend, at an intersection where the peace officer usually hangs out. One thought. Aw crap. What to do? what to do? Decided to get on the brakes and stop 5 feet long, rather than run the red. This is where manual brakes are no fun. Anyway, managed to get stopped a few feet past the line, but the emergency brake light came. I cycled the E brake and light remained on. Light turned green and I proceeded with caution. Drove about 400 feet and pulled into a parking lot. Dropped it in reverse, then neutral, cycled the E brake a couple times and the light went out. However, I did notice that the brake pedal now had a little mush to it, kinda like power brakes. 3 questions.
1. What caused the E brake light to come on?
2. How serious is this?
3. What happened to my brake pedal? it used to be very stiff and the brakes, although manual, did start to grab without any play. Now there is an inch or so of mush then they start to grab.
Maybe you drew some air during the hard brake... say if your brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir sloshed enough to let air into the master cylinder. The ebrake light also comes on if your braking hydraulic pressure is too low. I would bleed and top fluid off and see how that works.
