Ok, today I changed the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Still just turns over and over but wont start. Mechanic that helped me with this said that maybe the plug wires arent the exact length they need to be. Anyone know the lengths of the wires we need? I bought from autozone and told them the year/make/model size engine and all...and they sold me the set they said I needed so I'm stumped.
Have you verified spark? I wouldn't worry about the lengths. That just will make the spark minutely less hot.
I'd verify spark first, and if you have spark, verify timing. Do you know where your timing is at? If it was starting beforehand and doesn't now, your timing shouldn't be a problem.
Verify all the plugs are in the right order too. 18436572
The length is not going to make a difference unless you have them snaked all over the engine compartment. Even then it should fire. Verify you have spark first. Do you have fuel. I missed the first post.
Assuming you have HEI. Did you properly reinstall the two wires GOING TO THE CAP?
If no HEI. I'm assuming you got the correct rotor. you marked all the wires before you removed them and placed them back correctly, hell it would still backfire.
